Nabadwip is known as one of the most prominent pilgrimage destination for the Vaishnavas. It was here that Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the founder of Vaishnav religion and great social reformer were born and spent the considerable period of his lifetime. This historic town is situated on the banks of Bhagirathi River in Nadia District of West Bengal.
Located at a distance of 20 km from Krishna Nagar, the town used to be a well known center of education, religion and culture during the bygone era. Nabadwip also possesses a rich historical significance. During the 12th century, it used to serve as the capital of Sena dynasty under the rule of King Lakshman sena. Later captured by Muhammed Bakhtiyar Khilji, it saw a brief Muslim rule as well
Today, Nabadwip is a hub of religious fervor, devotion as well as famous festivals. A number of temples belonging to different sects like the Vaishnavs, Shivaites and the Shaktas are situated here earning it the title of a ‘temple town’.
